NRCC rolls out first joint ad with Rep. Bresnahan after Supreme Court spending decision
The National Republican Congressional Committee launched a coordinated advertising push with Rep. Rob Bresnahan, the first such effort since the Supreme Court lifted limits on party-candidate spending.
The National Republican Congressional Committee announced its inaugural coordinated advertising campaign with Rep. Rob Bresnahan of Pennsylvania, marking the first such effort after the Supreme Court nullified caps on joint party-candidate expenditures. The NRCC and the candidate are allocating $81,000 to air two ads, “Keep Caring” and “On Call,” over roughly a week on broadcast, cable and radio in the Scranton area. One spot features a nurse named Lisa who credits Bresnahan with negotiating a deal that kept two local hospitals open, while the other includes a fire chief’s endorsement.
The Supreme Court decision removed the previous $65,000 limit that the Federal Election Commission had enforced for most House candidates. NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella said the ruling allows the party to amplify Republican messages ahead of the November elections. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairwoman Suzan DelBene has condemned Bresnahan, accusing him of using his office for personal gain and supporting Medicaid cuts. The ads aim to bolster Bresnahan’s re-election bid against Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.
Why it matters
It shows how a Supreme Court ruling is reshaping campaign finance, allowing parties to spend directly with candidates.
