Nscale captures nearly two-thirds of equity funding for UK datacenter infrastructure

Research firm Tracxn reports that Nscale secured $3.7 billion of the $5.7 billion raised by UK datacenter infrastructure companies, representing almost 66 percent of the total.

Tracxn’s latest analysis of UK datacenter infrastructure companies shows that Nscale, a rent-a-GPU provider, raised $3.7 billion in equity, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the $5.7 billion total funding recorded for the sector. The firm is the only privately held company valued above $1 billion, making it the sector’s sole unicorn. Other funded players include GreenScale ($1.3 billion), Kao Data ($177 million), Verne ($125 million), Iceotope ($107 million) and Six Degrees Group ($106 million).

Of the 154 companies surveyed, 24 secured equity, with London attracting 93 percent of that capital. The sector has seen 36 acquisitions, the largest being TelecityGroup’s $3.8 billion purchase by Equinix, while only two firms have gone public. Separate construction market data indicate nearly 100 UK datacenter projects worth over £36 billion are in the pipeline, driven largely by overseas operators.

Why it matters

The concentration of funding in Nscale highlights the rapid growth of AI-focused datacenter services and the geographic centralisation of UK tech investment.
