NSW Premier Cancels Planned Timetable Overhaul for T4, T8 and South Coast Trains

The New South Wales government has withdrawn proposed timetable revisions for the T4, T8 and South Coast rail lines after commuter opposition.

A planned revamp of train schedules on Sydney’s T4, T8 and South Coast lines has been abandoned by the NSW government just weeks before implementation. The changes, which were to begin on November 15, aimed to provide more frequent services but would have resulted in longer trips for some commuters and removed direct stops such as Wolli Creek, complicating travel to Sydney Airport from Wollongong. Premier Chris Minns announced the reversal, citing input from commuters and local members of parliament.

Transport Minister John Graham said the government will now prioritize improving reliability across the existing network. The proposal had also sought to untangle shared track sections to reduce bottlenecks, but concerns over reduced direct access to stations like Sydenham, St Peters, Erskineville and Redfern contributed to the backlash.

Why it matters

Commuters rely on these lines, and the reversal highlights government responsiveness to public transport concerns.
