NTT Docomo inadvertently shared 340,000 customers' data with Amazon Japan
NTT Docomo disclosed that a settings glitch exposed the phone numbers and service plans of about 340,000 users to Amazon Japan without consent.
The carrier said an error in its online contract process failed to show a consent prompt between April 21 and August 20, allowing personal details to be transferred to Amazon's Japanese unit. The information included phone numbers and mobile plans. Amazon has since deleted the data and claims it was not used. NTT Docomo reported the incident after discovering the oversight.
