Nuclearelectrica trims 2026 profit outlook by 43% amid reactor shutdowns

Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica lowered its 2026 profit target by 43% after unplanned reactor outages cut expected production.

Analysts at SNN calculated that the two reactors being offline in 2026 will reduce the company's revenue by roughly RON 991 million, a drop of 18.4% versus the approved budget. Production is forecast to fall from 9,080 GWh to 6,743 GWh, a decline of over 25%. Consequently, gross profit is expected to shrink from RON 2.4 billion to RON 1.404 billion, and net profit from RON 2.064 billion to RON 1.177 billion. The firm’s market value has fallen 19% in six months, now below RON 18 billion, though it still holds an annual advance of about 25%.

Why it matters

The profit cut highlights how reactor downtime can sharply affect Romania's energy sector and investors.
