Nvidia enters talks to fund Perplexity, valuing AI search firm over $30 billion
Nvidia is negotiating a multi-billion-dollar investment in Perplexity, which could lift the AI search startup’s valuation beyond $30 billion.
In August 2025 Perplexity made an unsolicited $34.5 billion offer to buy Google’s Chrome browser, a sum about twice its own valuation at the time. One year later, the AI search startup founded by Aravind Srinivas is in negotiations with Nvidia for an investment that could value the company at more than $30 billion, a rise of over 50 percent from its last reported valuation of roughly $20 billion. The prospective round, described as worth billions of dollars, may also feature a technology-licensing arrangement.
Perplexity’s revenue has reportedly tripled this year, with annualised sales now exceeding $750 million, largely thanks to its Perplexity Computer AI agent and its proprietary browser, Comet, which the founder promotes for “agentic browsing.” Nvidia already sits on Perplexity’s cap table alongside Jeff Bezos and SoftBank and supplies the Vera CPU that accelerates agentic coding by about 1.5 times. The company also signed a $750 million Azure cloud deal with Microsoft earlier in the year and has hinted at a 2028 IPO. Nvidia’s investment, if finalized before its November earnings, will be the first test of the reported commitment.
Why it matters
A Nvidia stake could accelerate Perplexity’s growth and intensify competition in AI-driven search.
