Nvidia explores deeper stake or possible acqui-hire of Reflection AI
Nvidia is negotiating to increase its involvement with open-source startup Reflection AI, which could lead to an acqui-hire or a full purchase.
According to people with direct knowledge, Nvidia is considering deepening its financial and strategic ties with Reflection AI, an open-source AI startup backed by an $800 million stake. The startup, created in 2024 by ex-DeepMind engineers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, focuses on automating software development. Nvidia’s options include an acqui-hire, where it would absorb the team and license the technology, potentially avoiding a protracted regulatory review.
The parties hope to finalize a deal in the coming weeks, though the negotiations remain tentative. Reflection AI recently introduced its first open-weight model, Beam, aiming to challenge cheaper Chinese models in coding and agentic tasks. Nvidia and Reflection AI have not commented at the time of reporting.
Why it matters
The deal could reshape AI tooling markets and affect competition in software-development automation.
