NY Film Festival unveils Currents program featuring bold experimental works and world premieres

The New York Film Festival revealed the selections for its Currents segment, a collection that pushes cinematic boundaries through narrative and formal innovation. The lineup comprises 15 feature films and 28 short pieces, anchored by the world premiere of Bardi, a project by filmmaker and photographer Tala Hadid that immerses viewers in Morocco’s horse-riding culture. Other notable entries include Beatrice Gibson’s feminist meditation At Night, Sebastian Brameshuber’s London, Bruno Dumont’s Red Rocks, John Torres’s The Remotes, and Luise Donschen’s Tomorrow a Long Time Ago.

Additional titles span from Jacqueline Lentzou’s coming-of-age story to Carlos Reygadas’ Heil Jupiter! and a new restoration of Fred Camper’s 1970s diary-like Suicide Note. The program also presents Mariano Llinás’ three-hour-plus biographical Life of Jorge Luis Borges and a short by Laura Poitras examining ICE confrontations in Minneapolis. The festival runs from Sept. 25 to Oct. 12.
