NYC Democratic Socialists of America moves into pricey Midtown and Bed-Stuy offices

At a recent budget meeting, Grace Mausser revealed that the NYC Democratic Socialists of America will abandon its cramped Lower East Side headquarters in favor of two upscale locations. The chapter will rent a full floor of 5,150 square feet in a Hudson Yards tower on West 35th Street for $15,000 a month, making it the second-largest expense after the proposed $95,000 salaries for Mausser and co-chair Gustavo Gordillo.

A second office will open in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, at $7,000 a month, featuring high-end lighting and climate control. The Manhattan lease is with the Chetrit family, a developer previously sued by Brooklyn tenants over alleged rent-stabilization violations. fundraising for the Brooklyn space has raised more than $68,000, surpassing an initial $20,000 target and now aiming for $100,000. The organization plans to hold its first meeting in the new Midtown space on Sept. 27.
