NYC’s sole Republican blasts mayor and Senate leader over voter ID stance

In an interview, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis charged that Democratic mayor Zohran Mamdani and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are betraying voters by opposing voter-ID measures after promising support in their districts. Malliotakis called for Senate approval of President Donald Trump’s SAVE America Act, a bill that would mandate proof of U.S. citizenship for ballot eligibility. She argued that over 80% of Americans favor such requirements and that Democrats in Congress are ignoring constituent wishes.

The lawmaker also highlighted Mamdani’s push for photo-ID in city programs, labeling it hypocritical when the mayor opposes ID for voting. Malliotakis referenced a recent Staten Island gathering where Mamdani was booed, linking the reaction to his past stance on police funding and his perceived “communist agenda.” Requests for comment were sent to the offices of Mamdani and Schumer.
