Nyland Confirmed as Backup Keeper at RB Leipzig Amid Norway Goalkeeping Debate
German media say Ørjan Nyland will serve as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Maarten Vandevoordt at RB Leipzig, while his role in Norway's national team remains contested.
According to a German journalist, Ørjan Nyland has been assigned the role of second goalkeeper at RB Leipzig, backing up the Belgian Maarten Vandevoordt after Peter Gulácsi left the club. The decision, made in the spring, confirmed Vandevoordt as the starter, a move previously. Nyland, who spent the previous season on the bench at Sevilla and was Norway's first-choice keeper at the World Cup, has not yet logged Bundesliga minutes, though he could appear in the DFB-Pokal or Champions League if the team progresses.
Coach Ståle Solbakken noted Nyland's recent strong training performances but stressed that the competition for the national team spot remains open, with Egil Selvik and Sander Tangvik also in contention. Nyland expressed confidence in his readiness and eagerness to contribute when called upon.
