NYSE partners with Blockchain.com to test tokenised stock offerings
The New York Stock Exchange and crypto platform Blockchain.com announced a strategic collaboration to explore blockchain-based tokens that represent NYSE-listed stocks and ETFs.
The New York Stock Exchange and cryptocurrency exchange Blockchain.com have entered a strategic partnership to examine the creation of blockchain tokens linked to NYSE-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds. As part of the collaboration, Intercontinental Exchange, the NYSE’s parent, will provide Blockchain.com with market data and analytics, and the crypto platform will embed NYSE data within its application. The companies have not yet identified the jurisdictions where the token products might be offered.
Blockchain.com, which operates from London and Dallas, already sells tokenised stocks to European customers, though it did not reveal purchase volumes. The initiative aligns with a recent US Securities and Exchange Commission exemption that relaxes many traditional exchange rules for blockchain-based securities, sparking debate over investor protections and the rights of token holders.
Why it matters
The partnership could broaden access to US equities and reshape how investors trade stocks outside regular market hours.
