Oakdale man left unconscious and battered by a group at Minnesota State Fair

Sammy Kimbrough, a 45-year-old from Oakdale, was knocked out and stomped by several young men at the Minnesota State Fair, sustaining serious facial injuries.

On the night of September 5, Minnesota State Fair police responded to an assault near Carnes Avenue and Nelson Street involving Sammy Kimbrough, a 45-year-old Oakdale resident, and a group of young men aged roughly 16 to their early 20s. After Kimbrough unintentionally brushed against one of the youths, the encounter escalated; a member delivered a sudden punch that knocked him out, and additional members stomped him while he was unconscious.

Witnesses said the attack lasted under 90 seconds before the assailants fled. Kimbrough was taken to Regions Hospital, where doctors discovered a double-fractured jaw and performed emergency reconstructive surgery. He spent two days in the hospital and now faces severe pain, difficulty speaking and eating, and an inability to work as a union masonry laborer. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover his medical and lost-wage expenses, and police are still seeking information as the investigation continues.
