Oana Gheorghiu explains why she accepted the health minister post

In a Facebook post, Oana Gheorghiu detailed why she agreed to become health minister in the cabinet that Siegfried Mureșan plans to lead. She stressed that her understanding of Romania's health system comes from direct contact with patients, their relatives and frontline staff, not from studies or policy papers. Over the past 15 years she has taken part in more than 30 initiatives to construct, refurbish and equip public hospitals, such as a 12,000-square-metre hospital that served over 3,500 children in its inaugural year and the creation of sterile rooms that tripled the country's transplant capacity.

Gheorghiu said her life was much quieter before politics and that she accepted the role because she wants a system where a child's or elder's fate does not depend on miracles. She outlined priorities for modern infrastructure, well-trained staff and putting patients at the centre of every decision.
