Oatly puts climate-majority message on every carton worldwide

Oatly is printing a brief on-pack summary of the “ultimate climate solution” on all its oat-drink cartons, highlighting that 80-89% of people want stronger climate action.

Oatly announced that every carton of its oat-drink range will now carry a concise statement describing what it calls the “ultimate climate solution,” based on surveys indicating that 80 to 89 percent of people worldwide favor stronger climate policies. The packaging features an 11-word block aimed at politicians and an 89-word block representing the public’s demand for action, using the brand’s characteristic humor. Caroline Reid, the company’s senior sustainability director, said the goal is to mobilise the “89 percent” who are currently silent about climate issues.

The initiative debuted in Sweden before rolling out internationally, echoing a parallel campaign that began earlier this year in Japan, where TV spots and media outlets are broadcasting the same message. A related interview with Governor Gavin Newsom is scheduled for New York Climate Week, underscoring the global push to translate public support into concrete policy changes.

Why it matters

The campaign seeks to turn a worldwide public majority into political pressure for stronger climate policies.
