Obama heads fundraising on Martha's Vineyard as GOP gains redistricting edge

Nearly two months before the November midterm elections, Barack Obama will headline a fundraising dinner on Martha’s Vineyard for former Attorney General Eric Holder’s National Democratic Redistricting Committee. Republicans have recently added at least ten GOP-leaning congressional districts through early redistricting, while the Democratic National Committee reported $18.5 million in debt at the end of June. Obama has remained active this cycle, financing TV ads for candidates such as Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, and supporting California’s redistricting referendum.

Democratic strategists Mike Nellis and Mike Lux praised his return, citing his nationwide approval, whereas Garry South called for a more combative stance against Donald Trump. A June one outlet/SSRS poll gave Obama a 57 % favorable rating, higher than Trump’s 34 % and former President Joe Biden’s 30 %. The fundraiser coincides with Vice President JD Vance’s rally for Trump-aligned super PAC MAGA Inc. in Michigan, underscoring the partisan fundraising battle.
