Ocasio-Cortez Signals Possible Trip to Florida to Support Socialist Senate Candidate
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she looks forward to returning to Florida to help socialist candidates, notably DSA member Angie Nixon in the Senate race.
During an interview, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed willingness to visit Florida again to back socialist-aligned candidates, citing Senate candidate Angie Nixon and 22nd District congressional nominee Pia Dandiya. She accused Republicans of resorting to racially charged rhetoric instead of debating health-care and wage policies. Nixon, a Democratic Socialists of America member, recently secured the party’s nomination and has been targeted by Sen. Ashley Moody, who labeled her a socialist.
Nixon has tried to downplay her DSA affiliation while promoting policies such as public housing, universal health care, and veteran support. She also runs a Jacksonville coffee shop called Cafe Resistance and has quoted Assata Shakur on the campaign trail. Ocasio-Cortez reiterated her openness to appear wherever progressives need her presence.
