October Social Security payments to begin next week in three weekly batches
The first group of October Social Security checks for retirees, capped at $5,181, will be sent out in seven days.
The Social Security Administration announced that the initial round of October benefits, limited to $5,181, will be dispatched within a week. Recipients born on or before the 10th of any month are slated to get their payments on Oct. 14, while those born between the 11th and 20th will be paid on Oct. 21, and the final group—birth dates on or after the 21st—on Oct. 28. Benefits are available to citizens from age 62 onward, with amounts depending on factors such as retirement age and total contributions.
A 70-year-old retiree can receive up to the $5,181 cap, whereas the youngest eligible retirees may receive as little as $2,969. The program is funded by payroll taxes from employers and employees, and trustees warn the fund could be exhausted by 2032 without congressional action.
