Odisha greenlights ₹3,406 crore silicon-carbide semiconductor plant near Bhubaneswar

The Unit Approval Committee of the Falta Special Economic Zone gave the go-ahead to SiCSem Private Limited’s proposal for a ₹3,406.25 crore silicon-carbide semiconductor complex on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Located on 21.889 acres within the Electronic System Design and Manufacturing Park at Info Valley-II, the integrated facility will handle fabrication, assembly, testing, marking and packaging of SiC devices. Planned annual capacity includes 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs, targeting high-power, high-temperature markets.

SiCSem forecasts export turnover of about ₹7,043 crore and foreign-exchange earnings of ₹4,523 crore in the first five years, while creating roughly 1,270 jobs. The company also established the Silicon Carbide Research and Innovation Centre at IIT Bhubaneswar with a ₹64 crore budget to bolster indigenous R&D. This approval follows earlier semiconductor projects in Odisha, bringing total committed investment in the sector to ₹10,899 crore.
