Odisha Targets Over ₹50,000 crore for Port Expansion, New Port and Shipbuilding Hub
Odisha is planning more than ₹50,000 crore of maritime projects, including expanding Paradip Port, building Bahuda port and a shipbuilding cluster in Kendrapara.
Odisha’s eastern coastline is being reshaped into a multi-billion-rupee maritime hub, with a pipeline exceeding ₹50,000 crore. Paradip Port will receive a ₹3,005 crore deep-draft Western Dock, expected to add roughly 25 mtpa and accommodate vessels with drafts up to 18.5 metres, while a Centre-approved ₹797.17 crore jetty will support green hydrogen, ammonia and other liquid cargoes. The port, which handled a record 156.45 million tonnes in 2025-26, aims to surpass 500 mtpa by 2047.
In Ganjam, a joint-venture to develop the Bahuda port has secured in-principle approval, with a projected ₹21,500 crore investment and a 150 mtpa handling capacity across four docks. Additionally, the National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park Odisha Ltd has received approval for a shipbuilding cluster in Kendrapara, valued at about ₹24,700 crore and targeting 1.2 million gross tonnes per year. The projects also include digital upgrades at Paradip and land acquisition for a green-hydrogen hub.
Why it matters
The investments could boost regional trade, create jobs and position India as a clean-energy export hub.
