Officer fires on naked, bloodied suspect wielding broken glass at SoCal hospital
A Simi Valley police officer shot Luis Ramirez-Macias, who was naked and covered in blood, after he lunged at her with a shattered glass vial inside Los Robles Hospital.
After a July 2 domestic-violence call in Simi Valley, Luis Ramirez-Macias was taken to Los Robles Hospital under the watch of Officer Carly Grice. While staff attended to him, Ramirez-Macias shattered a glass medication vial and used the fragments as a makeshift edged weapon, moving toward the officer in a naked, blood-soaked state. Grice retreated and fired a single shot from her department-issued firearm, hitting Ramirez-Macias.
Hospital personnel rushed to treat the injured suspect, who stayed in care for several days before being released and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail. The hospital issued a statement affirming safety for patients, staff, and visitors and noted normal operations continued. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is leading the officer-involved shooting investigation.
