Ohio couple arrested in Florida after assaulting family and striking 9-year-old on cruise ship

Two intoxicated Ohio residents were taken into custody in Port Canaveral after they forced their way into a cabin on a cruise ship and attacked a family, including a nine-year-old child.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey reported that Gannon Jacox and Brooklyn Hicks, both from Ohio, entered a family’s cabin on an unidentified cruise vessel after a verbal dispute over noise. After being told to lower their volume, the pair allegedly forced the cabin door open, and Jacox proceeded to hit two adults and their nine-year-old child, while Hicks attempted to strike the occupants. The sheriff’s office noted that none of the victims required serious medical care, though Jacox sustained a noticeable eye injury during the altercation.

Following the ship’s return to Port Canaveral, the suspects were arrested and booked into the county jail. Jacox is charged with burglary with battery and child abuse without great bodily harm; Hicks faces burglary with battery and battery-touch/strike. Bonds were set at $31,000 for Jacox and $6,000 for Hicks. The incident was attributed to alcohol consumption and poor judgment rather than external factors such as heat.
