Ohio mother charged with endangering 16 children found in waste-filled room

Elizabeth Siders is scheduled for a hearing in Vinton County court, where she will face 19 counts of child endangerment along with sexual assault and illicit sexual conduct allegations. She remains detained while prosecutors expand the investigation to include a 17th minor taken in by the Siders family in 2022, who later accused Gary Siders II of abuse; no formal charge has yet been filed against Elizabeth for that alleged act.

The family's troubled history includes multiple child-protective services investigations since 2020, citing unsanitary living conditions, lead exposure, and missed medical appointments. On June 30, 2026, authorities entered the Hamden home and found 16 children, aged 18 months to 18 years, confined in a tiny room covered in human waste, leading to several hospitalizations and state custody placements. A grand jury indictment on August 21 charged Gary Siders II, Elizabeth and Christina Siders with child endangerment, while Gary Siders Sr. faced 16 counts and was later deemed incompetent to stand trial. Two additional men, Joshua Saunders III and Brandon Henderson, were also charged with sexual offenses against minors.
