Ohio Senator Blames Biden-Era Mail-Order Abortion Rule for Forced-Pill Assault

Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio claims a constituent was held down and forced to take crushed mail-order abortion pills after doctor Hassan Abbas fraudulently used his estranged wife's personal data to acquire the drugs. The incident occurred under a 2023 FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy change that permits mifepristone to be prescribed via telehealth and shipped. The woman, who did not want an abortion, escaped but suffered severe hemorrhaging and required hospital care.

Abbas was sentenced to six months in jail and two years probation, a penalty Moreno calls insufficient. In a letter to Attorney General Todd Blanche, Moreno urged the Justice Department to intervene and asked for a swift conclusion to the Louisiana v. FDA lawsuit to restore the prior in-person dispensing rule. He also requested a review of possible federal charges against Abbas.
