Oil executive sues Starbucks after hot tea spill causes severe genital injuries

According to a complaint filed last week, Vladimir Podlipskiy was meeting colleagues at a San Diego Starbucks on August 28, 2024 when an employee asked him to shift nearer to a table that was not stable. While his hot tea sat on the table, it tipped over, soaking his lap, groin and genitals and causing severe burns and nerve damage. The filing accuses the coffee chain of negligence for not securing the beverage or ensuring table stability, and for directing the plaintiff toward the hazard.

Podlipskiy’s counsel asserts the injuries have resulted in physical pain, emotional trauma and substantial medical costs. The suit seeks general and special damages to be determined at trial, along with attorney fees and court costs. Starbucks answered the complaint by denying liability and arguing that Podlipskiy may have failed to mitigate his damages. No comment was obtained from the company for this report.
