Oil India reports 200,000 SCMD gas flow from shallow Krishna-Godavari well

State-run Oil India Ltd. announced a natural-gas discovery in the shallow Krishna-Godavari offshore block, recording a peak test flow of 200,000 standard cubic metres per day.

Oil India Ltd. confirmed a new natural-gas find in the shallow-water KG-DSF/GSKW/2018 block of the Krishna-Godavari Basin, a key offshore hydrocarbon region on India's east coast. The well, drilled in the Matsyapuri formation, started testing on 16 October 2026 and has delivered gas at an average of 100,000 SCMD, peaking at 200,000 SCMD, alongside about 170 barrels of condensate daily. This is the first discovery in the block won during recent Discovered Small Field bid rounds.

Preparations are under way to evaluate a higher-pressure zone, though the company has not yet estimated the total resource size. The find adds to India's push for greater domestic gas production as the government targets a 15 % share of gas in the energy mix by 2030.

Why it matters

The find could boost India's domestic gas supply, reducing reliance on imports and supporting its energy-mix goals.
