Oireachtas committee probes integration of GAA, LGFA and Camogie bodies
A parliamentary committee is questioning the progress of merging the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association, including the resignation of steering-group chair Mary McAleese.
Members of the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport gathered in Committee Room 1 at Leinster House to examine the ongoing effort to combine the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association under a single structure. The inquiry will map one outlet stage of the process, explore reasons for the adjusted schedule and hear proposals for resolving remaining challenges. Gordon Manning introduced the meeting, noting the organisations intend to present a united front.
The committee will also discuss Mary McAleese’s decision to resign as chair of the steering group, following her sharp critique of the GAA’s management as “less than impressive” and lacking a clear vision. Her comments have heightened scrutiny of the integration plan’s leadership and timeline.
Why it matters
The review could shape the future governance of Ireland's major Gaelic sports bodies.
