Oklahoma Senate hopeful's death ruled suicide amid family doubts

Barry Christian, 54, a Trump-supporting Republican seeking the District 38 seat in western Oklahoma, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound to the head on April 30 after a hunter reported a crashed pickup in a ravine near Highway 30. The Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner issued a one-page preliminary report stating the manner of death was suicide. Christian’s family, including ex-wife Farrah Christian and daughter Neleh Christian, have challenged the conclusion, citing multiple bullet holes in the truck and the fact that only his left hand was tested for gunshot residue.
They allege the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation mishandled the case and may have staged the scene. The daughter noted that a homicide investigation is still ongoing, which could explain the premature release of the suicide ruling. Officials have not yet provided further clarification, and the family is calling for a more thorough inquiry.
