Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris shoots armadillo troubling his backyard

First-year Oklahoma State football coach Eric Morris said he shot a night-time armadillo that was damaging his yard, noting that no permit is required in the state.

Oklahoma State’s new head coach Eric Morris described a late-night encounter with an armadillo that had been ruining his garden. At roughly 2:30 a.m., he shot the creature and later messaged nearby residents to apologize for the gunfire, stressing that no special permit is needed to manage such wildlife in the state’s countryside. Morris likened his reaction to that of former coach Mike Gundy and said the experience added to his already restless nights as he readies the Cowboys for the upcoming season.

The program has added 85 newcomers, including three offensive transfers—quarterback Drew Mestemaker, running back Caleb Hawkins and receiver Wyatt Young—from North Texas. Oklahoma State even provides online guidance for residents dealing with armadillos, noting that shooting is effective but may be restricted within city limits. Morris remains focused on building the team despite the nocturnal wildlife interruption.
