Ole Miss student deaths involve packaged kratom as investigation proceeds

University of Mississippi officials identified two students who died this week—Aidan Hamilton, 18, from Colorado, and Robert Strang, 20, from Georgia. Hamilton was found on campus while Strang was located off‑campus in Oxford. Packaged kratom was recovered at both scenes, but investigators have not determined that the herb caused either death. Local, state and federal agencies are conducting separate investigations, and the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office is handling the autopsies. Authorities have warned the public to avoid unprescribed substances while the inquiry continues.
