Olympic sprint legend Usain Bolt signs up for Manchester veterans football side
Eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt has been entered as a player for Wythenshawe Vets FC, a veterans’ team competing in the Cheshire Veterans Football League.
According to the FA’s Full-Time database, Usain Bolt, the eight-time Olympic gold-medalist, is now registered with Wythenshawe Vets FC, a veterans’ Sunday-league club playing in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Veterans Football League. The Manchester-based side gained attention last season for assembling a roster of former Premier League players, including Emile Heskey, Oumar Niasse, Antonio Valencia, Papiss Cisse, Stephen Ireland, Nedum Onuoha, Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.
Bolt, who holds the 100 m and 200 m world records set in 2009, retired from track in 2017 and later tried his hand at professional football, scoring twice in a friendly for the Central Coast Mariners before leaving the club after eight weeks. The club has not officially announced Bolt’s addition and did not provide a comment when approached.
Why it matters
The registration shows a high-profile athlete transitioning to grassroots football, highlighting post-career paths for famous sports figures.
