Omani researchers win first place at Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage

Huda bint Mubarak Al-Dairi and Dr. Thuraya bint Abdullah Al-Jabri won first place in the sixth edition of the Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage, in the Studies and Research category (Arabic category), for their graduate research entitled: "The Sustainability of the Maerua crassifolia in the Sultanate of Oman: A Scientific and Traditional Perspective on Cultural Heritage. " The study explored the Maerua crassifolia tree in the Sultanate of Oman through a collaborative approach that integrates scientific and cultural heritage, highlighting its prominent role in Omani society.

The study recommended the rigorous preservation and expansion of Acacia trees, particularly near apiaries, due to their contribution to supporting honey production and quality. The Sharjah International Award for Cultural Heritage is dedicated to safeguarding, preserving, and sustaining cultural heritage and is administered by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, a UNESCO Category 2 Wales Centre.
