Omar Sy condemns government handling of nationwide high school protests
Actor Omar Sy called the authorities' response to the student demonstrations "lamentable" and urged officials to listen to the youths' demands.
On France Inter, Omar Sy expressed disappointment with the French government's approach to the ongoing high-school protests, describing it as "lamentable" and accusing officials of repressing rather than hearing the youths. He highlighted that the students have been rallying since mid-September for better funding, adequate facilities and fair resource distribution in education. The protests have seen five national demonstration days, occasional violence, 147 injuries among education personnel and 36 investigations into alleged police misconduct.
Sy urged authorities to pause punitive measures, listen to the students, and then discuss solutions. The campaign has attracted backing from various public personalities such as Victor Wembanyama, Squeezie, Louane, Lena Situations and actor Vincent Lindon, who called the movement a fight against resource shortages. Sy made the comments while promoting the new season of the Netflix series Lupin.
