Ombudsman urges Philippines to negotiate extradition deals with European nations

During a radio interview, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla called for the Philippines to negotiate extradition treaties with European states, citing the presence of Zaldy Co, Loren Legarda and Leandro Leviste in France while they are subjects of investigations. He pointed out that the country currently lacks an extradition pact with France, which hampers efforts to bring such individuals back. Remulla intends to travel to France to discuss the issue with international law-enforcement agencies, including the Financial Action Task Force, and to raise concerns that Europe could serve as a haven for those accused of corruption or white-collar crimes.

He also mentioned possible meetings with EU officials in Brussels or The Hague. His brother, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, is scheduled to meet Interpol officials in France as well. No guarantee was given that Co would be returned, though Jonvic expressed confidence in securing his return.
