OMV appoints Emma Delaney as CEO to steer shift toward petrochemicals and UAE partnership

Austrian oil major OMV has hired Emma Delaney, a 54-year-old manager from British Petrol, as its new chief executive on a three-year contract.

OMV, Austria's largest energy group, announced that Emma Delaney, previously a manager at British Petrol, will lead the company as chief executive under a three-year deal with an option to extend for two years. She is tasked with finalising a transformation that started earlier this year, shifting focus from traditional oil and gas extraction to increased petrochemical refining and polyolefin production. Former head Alfred Stern is credited with ending OMV's Russian chapter and launching the strategic redirection, now steering the firm toward a partnership with the United Arab Emirates.

Central to this plan is Borouge Group International, a joint venture equally owned by OMV’s Borealis unit and the UAE's state oil company ADNOC. The move signals OMV's ambition to become a global player in the chemicals sector.

Why it matters

The leadership change could reshape OMV's business model and deepen its ties with the UAE's energy sector.
