One body found after jeepney capsizes in Batangas river
Rescuers recovered the corpse of one of two missing passengers after a jeepney was swept away by strong currents on the Paninsingin River in Rosario, Batangas.
On Saturday around 5:30 p.m., a jeepney transporting 14 passengers tried to cross a spillway on the Paninsingin River in Rosario, Batangas, but strong river currents swept the vehicle off the crossing and fully submerged it. Residents managed to pull 12 people to safety, leaving a couple unaccounted for. The Philippine Coast Guard's Southern Tagalog District deployed a joint search and rescue effort, using an aerial drone that located one of the missing victims at 8:57 a.m., roughly three kilometres downstream from the spillway at Barangay Colongan.
The recovered body was taken to authorities, while the search for the second missing individual, a man wearing a black printed shirt and royal blue shorts, remains ongoing. The incident highlights the hazards of crossing shallow spillways during periods of high water flow.
