One-day-old baby found dead in MP hospital's newborn unit, mother and grandmother questioned
A one-day-old infant died in the special newborn care unit of Ashoknagar district hospital, and police are interrogating the mother and her grandmother.
A couple from a nearby village gave birth to a one-day-old girl at Ashoknagar district hospital, after which the infant was transferred to the special newborn care unit for observation. The mother noticed bruising on the baby's neck and blood from the mouth on Saturday afternoon and sought medical help, but the child was pronounced dead. Hospital records indicate that only the mother and her grandmother accessed the SNCU, with the grandmother also feeding the baby there.
The father had left for the village earlier that day. Because the SNCU lacks surveillance cameras, police are reviewing footage from other hospital areas to reconstruct events. A murder case has been filed and both the mother and grandmother are being questioned, though no arrests have been reported.
