One killed and five critically wounded in shooting spree near Trappes

A gun attack in Trappes and nearby La Verrière left one person dead and five seriously injured, prompting a terrorism probe.

On a seemingly ordinary Friday morning, a series of gunshots erupted near a fuel station on the edge of Trappes, resulting in one fatality and five severe injuries. The violence spread to the neighboring town of La Verrière, both located in the Yvelines region. Police quickly established a wide security perimeter, and officers in orange armbands began gathering initial evidence.

The national anti-terrorist prosecutor has opened an investigation, considering a possible racist motive behind the assault. Eyewitness Amine, a 23-year-old who had stopped for fuel, recounted hearing multiple detonations and seeing a truck driver scramble for cover. The community remains shaken as investigators continue to piece together the events.

Why it matters

The attack raises concerns about public safety and potential hate-motivated violence in the Paris suburbs.
