One Nation leader Warren Pickering defended by Pauline Hanson amid drug use claims

Pauline Hanson, founder of One Nation, defended Victorian state leader Warren Pickering, stating that accusations of heavy drug consumption are a personal matter unrelated to the party. The allegations, presented by Jo Scott—Pickering’s ex-partner of nearly two decades—assert that they used marijuana, amphetamines and crystal meth in the home they shared with their children from 2005 to 2014. Handwritten notes allegedly from Pickering apologising for his behaviour while “on the shit” were published alongside the claims.

Pickering responded that the allegations are false, have been dismissed by the Family Court, and that he retains sole custody of his daughter. Senator Barnaby Joyce pointed out that Pickering later passed security vetting and served in the Australian Army, emphasizing the time elapsed since the alleged incidents. Pickering is contesting the marginal seat of Pakenham in the upcoming November state election, where One Nation is polling at about 23% primary support.
