One Nation proposes annual migration ceiling around 230,000, mirroring major parties

One Nation MP David Farley said the party would aim for roughly 230,000 migrants a year, a level comparable to Labor and the Coalition.

One Nation representative David Farley announced that his party would target an overall migration intake of roughly 230,000 people each year, combining a net overseas migration rate of about 130,000 with at least 100,000 skilled visas. He emphasized that the goal is to direct newcomers toward regional industries like agriculture, engineering and mining, rather than concentrating them in metropolitan areas. Farley cited specific visa streams, including around 40,000 Pacific workers and 68,000 to 70,000 skilled aged-care and mechanical engineers, to meet the skilled quota.

This figure closely matches the government's projection of 225,000 arrivals by 2028, a number that has already been surpassed following the post-COVID border reopening. The comments come amid broader debates, with Labor planning tighter temporary-visa rules and the Coalition developing a policy to tie migration to the pace of housing completions. Both major parties are seeking to counter One Nation's rising influence on the migration issue.
