One suspect in fatal Grangetown house fire released, investigation continues
A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after a deadly Grangetown fire has been released without further action, while a second suspect remains under questioning.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a house fire in Grangetown near Middlesbrough claimed the lives of 34-year-old Natalie McDonald and her seven-year-old niece Valentina Foster. Police initially arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder, but he has now been released without further action. A second suspect, aged 23, remains in police custody and is still being questioned.
The incident also resulted in a 48-year-old woman being hospitalized in critical condition, while three additional people sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. Cleveland Police continue to investigate the cause of the fire and the involvement of the remaining suspect.
