One-year-old dies in Atherstone home as two adults arrested for child neglect

Police say a one-year-old girl died at a Long Street residence in Atherstone and a man and a woman were taken into custody on suspicion of child neglect.

On Friday morning, Warwickshire Police were dispatched to a Long Street address in Atherstone after receiving calls about a one-year-old girl in cardiac arrest. Despite intensive efforts by paramedics, the infant could not be saved and was pronounced dead. Detectives subsequently arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of child neglect; both remain detained. The scene remains secured, with a partial closure of Long Street and a visible emergency services presence. Police have asked local residents to contact officers with any concerns. The investigation is ongoing.
