OnePlus unveils the high-performance OnePlus 16 flagship in China

OnePlus launched its new OnePlus 16 flagship in China, featuring top-tier specs and a distinctive LED-lit design.

OnePlus introduced the OnePlus 16 flagship in the Chinese market, marking its return to high-end devices after withdrawing from the US and Europe. The phone is built around performance, using a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, up to 1 TB of storage, and 16 GB of RAM. Power is supplied by a 9,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, supporting 100 W wired and 50 W wireless fast charging.

Its display is a 185 Hz OLED panel, the first to offer such a refresh rate for both gaming and system UI. Camera upgrades include a 200-megapixel primary sensor with a large 1/1.4-inch type and f/1.4 aperture, plus 50-megapixel ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, the latter with a 1/1.95-inch sensor. The device’s silver case incorporates LED lighting that shows the number “16” and a set of galactic coordinates, flashing different patterns for notifications. Pricing starts at ¥5,699, roughly $850, but the phone will not be sold in the US or Europe.

Why it matters

The launch shows OnePlus's focus on premium hardware for the Chinese market despite abandoning Western sales.
