Onshore winds bring showers and clouds across much of Queensland this weekend
Moist onshore breezes will usher rain and overcast skies to Queensland’s coast, especially the Sunshine Coast, through the weekend and early next week.
A shift to onshore winds is set to bring wet conditions to Queensland’s coastline, with the Sunshine Coast expected to record the most rainfall, potentially reaching 20 mm on Saturday and 10 mm on Sunday, according to senior meteorologist Felim Hanniffy. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts scattered showers across the south-east, Central and Cassowary coasts today, the North Tropical Coast tomorrow, and isolated rain in the eastern Darling Downs over the weekend.
Cloudy skies will dominate the Gold Coast and surrounding south-east regions from Saturday afternoon through early next week, while the far west may experience increased showers and occasional thunderstorms. Temperatures will be mild, with average highs around 22 °C and overnight minima holding in the double digits, aided by the onshore flow. Fog is possible along the Central Coast, and patches of morning frost could appear in the southern and central interior.
