Ontario man convicted for involvement in Atomwaffen Division recruitment video

In a Toronto courtroom, Superior Court Justice Maureen D. Forestell concluded that Kristoffer Nippak knowingly contributed to the activities of Atomwaffen Division, a group classified as a terrorist organization in Canada. Nippak, 33, was arrested in December 2023 and charged after an extensive RCMP probe that spanned central Quebec, eastern and northern Ontario, and the Niagara Region. The prosecution presented a recruitment video showing armed, skull-masked individuals brandishing AWD patches while burning the flags of the United States, Israel, and the European Union, which the judge deemed pivotal to the verdict.

Nippak’s co-accused, Matthew Althorpe of the Niagara Region, had already been sentenced to 20 years for three terrorism-related charges. The Atomwaffen Division, founded in the United States in 2015, is described as a militant accelerationist neo-Nazi group that conducts combat training and has engaged in violent actions at public rallies. The conviction underscores the Canadian authorities’ focus on dismantling extremist networks.
