Ontario man detained after livestream hate threats against Jewish community
Police arrested a 33-year-old man in Kitchener after a livestream containing antisemitic threats was reported online.
A 33-year-old resident of Kitchener was taken into custody after Waterloo Regional Police acted on a report of an online livestream that included antisemitic threats. Investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence and charged him with uttering threats to cause death, motivated by hate. The incident occurs amid a surge in antisemitic activity in Canada, coming just days after a shooting outside the Sons of Jacob synagogue in Belleville.
That attack involved former soldier Sean Ward, who confronted police with a shotgun and was later killed following a shootout that also wounded Const. Jeff Smith. Police officials emphasized the potential for mass casualties in both cases.
