Ontario man on bail re-arrested for assaulting two boys in Windsor
A 22-year-old man who was out on bail for child-sex charges was detained after allegedly assaulting an eight-year-old and a 10-year-old in Windsor.
Windsor police announced that Qasim Sabi, 22, was taken into custody on Aug. 15 after allegedly committing two random sexual assaults on boys aged eight and 10 in a residential neighbourhood. According to a police statement, the suspect attempted to kiss the 10-year-old, who avoided the advance, and then kissed the eight-year-old on the cheek twice. The alleged offenses occurred at 10 p.m., directly contravening a bail condition that barred him from leaving his home after that hour.
This marks the third time in three years that Sabi has been charged with child-sex crimes while released on bail, following earlier charges in May 2025 and a 2023 case involving a 17-year-old girl. Both the recent assault and the 2023 incident took place in the 3400 block of Bloomfield Road, near the Ambassador and Gordie Howe bridges, and he was captured after a brief foot chase aided by a K-9 unit. The case highlights concerns about the practice of granting bail to accused child sex offenders in Canada.
Why it matters
The case raises public safety concerns about repeatedly granting bail to individuals accused of child sexual offenses.
