Ontario woman arrested at US-Canada border for stealing $43,549 in gold and silver

Investigators in Bensalem Township responded to a report on May 11 that a woman had claimed ownership of a FedEx parcel and signed for it, later taking a package valued at US$43,549 in gold and silver. Surveillance footage and license-plate readers identified the suspect, a 25-year-old Ontario resident, and tied her to a Nissan sedan rented at Philadelphia International Airport on May 10. After the alleged theft she returned to the airport, flew to Arizona the same day, and eventually traveled to the Canadian border in New York.

Bensalem Township Police secured an arrest warrant charging her with forgery, theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception, and alerted U.S. Customs. She was apprehended on July 5 while attempting to cross at Lewiston, New York, transferred to Bensalem for arraignment on July 31, and a Bucks County Magisterial District Judge set bail at $100,000.
