OpenAI adds app-style plugin interfaces and automation tools to ChatGPT

During the recent Dev Day presentation, OpenAI unveiled a suite of enhancements for its ChatGPT plugin ecosystem. Developers will be able to craft app-like experiences that appear as interactive panels in the ChatGPT sidebar, complete with file viewers supporting their native formats. A new Plugin Creator tool and a redesigned submission process aim to streamline building and publishing plugins, while clearer feedback helps developers refine their offerings.

The company also improved how plugins are ranked and recommended, and users can now approve each plugin's access needs separately. ChatGPT Sites will support these plugins, allowing users to share functional apps with colleagues. Finally, OpenAI added support for the proposed MCP Events specification to trigger automations based on events in connected applications.
