OpenAI adds former SpaceX AI sales lead to grow its cybersecurity unit
OpenAI has hired Graham Seamans, who previously ran sales at Elon Musk’s xAI, to head its cybersecurity sales effort.
OpenAI announced that Graham Seamans will take charge of sales for its cybersecurity business. Seamans, who directed xAI’s sales team from August 2025 and helped market the Grok chatbot to financial firms, previously spent about eight years at MongoDB Inc. He joins a wave of former SpaceX AI personnel now at OpenAI, which also recently recruited Brian McCarthy and Ismail Elmas from the Cursor startup acquired by SpaceX, as well as Uday Ruddarraju and Brent Mayo from SpaceX’s AI compute team.
The hiring spree is part of OpenAI’s strategy to broaden enterprise sales and add revenue sources like advertising before a potential IPO. Elon Musk, who lost a lawsuit against OpenAI over its for-profit shift, founded xAI after leaving the lab. OpenAI declined to comment on the appointments.
Why it matters
The hires signal OpenAI’s push to monetize AI security services and diversify revenue before a possible IPO.
